An Allowed Meeting opened in Ilkley in 1862, as part of Brighouse Monthly Meeting. It is said to have been settled from Addingham Meeting. It acquired its own purpose-built Meeting House in Queen's Road in 1869. A few years later, in 1872, it became a full Preparative Meeting. Thomas Pumphrey was briefly a member of the Meeting, after his retirement from Ackworth School in the months leading up to his death.
